Chapter 1. GatorLink WebMail, GatorLink, and You

Table of Contents

What is GatorLink WebMail?
What is GatorLink E-mail?

What is GatorLink WebMail?

And, perhaps equally importantly, what is it NOT? It is NOT GatorLink E-mail. It is only one way of accessing GatorLink e-mail.

GatorLink WebMail is the Web e-mail application designed and implemented by the UF CNS Open Systems Group to provide the UF community with Web access to the GatorLink e-mail service.

Many members of the University of Florida community have come to rely on GatorLink WebMail to access their UF GatorLink e-mail. It is undoubtedly the most convenient method available--that's why it was created--as a convenience. However, many users have come to think of it as the best--or even the only--means of accessing their GatorLink e-mail.

CNS appreciates the popularity of GatorLink WebMail, and we are very glad so many people find it useful. But it is important that users understand that GatorLink WebMail is not the only way to access GatorLink e-mail--and is usually not even the best way. GatorLink WebMail is intended as a convenient auxiliary tool for accessing your GatorLink e-mail when your regular computer is unavailable--for example, when travelling. The ability to use GatorLink WebMail to access your GatorLink e-mail from anywhere you have a Web browser makes it a valuable supplement to your regular e-mail program.

See CNS document d0198, "Why Do I Have To Use WebMail?" for a detailed discussion of the role GatorLink WebMail should play in your overall e-mail usage strategy.
