You must use the controls provided on the GatorLink WebMail pages to navigate through your messages. Using your browser's "Back" and "Forward" controls can result in odd side-effects, such as multiple copies of a single message being sent.

Move this message to the "Trash" folder

Reply

Reply to the Sender of this message

(all)

Reply to the Sender, plus all recipients of this message (note that this will not include "BCC:" recipients).

forward

Send a copy of this message to another person. A new message ("From:" you) will be created, and the current message will be included as an attachment.

report spam [Top Bar only]

Clicking this link deletes the message from your folder, and sends a copy to the UF e-mail system administrators. After checking to make sure that it really is "Spam" (Junk E-mail), the system administrators feed the e-mail into UF's central "Spam-Scoring" system (SpamAssassin), which uses the information to help improve its ability to spot similar junk messages in the future. By clicking the "report spam" link, you are helping to fine-tune UF's junk-mail screening system.

Please use this feature sparingly, and only in extreme cases: i.e., obvious Spam which received a very low Spam-score.

It should not be used for every "Spam" message which makes it through to your INBOX.

If you are having to report many messages as Spam, you may wish to lower your Junk mail threshold. The default setting is eight, which is rather permissive in terms of the Spam it lets through. See the Junk mail section of this document (in the Preferences chapter) for details about changing this setting.

Note

Clicking "report spam" in no way guarantees that you will not see a similar (or even identical) message in the future. Spam-filtering is not an exact science. Spammers are always changing their "From:" addresses, and recrafting the content of their messages in many subtle ways so as to make the problem of stopping them somewhat of a "cat-and-mouse" game. Your clicking of the "report spam" link only adds a tiny increment to the Spam-scoring system's knowledge regarding "What does a Spam-message look like?"

Note

If you are viewing a message marked as "Spam" () this "report-spam" control becomes "report not spam". You may use this if a clearly not-Spam message was erroneously classified as Spam. These reports also help fine-tune UF's junk-mail screening system.
