This section of the Preferences page gives you the ability to set a "vacation message" which will be automatically sent to anyone who sends you an e-mail message. Incoming mail is still delivered to your in-box, but the sender is notified that you are unavailable to respond immediately.
The system keeps track of addresses to which your vacation message has been sent, and will only send one vacation response to any given address during a 7-day period. That means if you have your vacation message enabled, a person who sends you several e-mail messages during a week will only receive ONE notification (each 7 days) that you are on vacation/unavailable. This prevents someone who sends you frequent e-mails from having to see repetitive "vacation" responses.
