This announcement will be of interest to administrators of mail servers for UF departments and other UF units.
CNS now has a subscription to the Spamhaus black list data which can be used by local mail servers for filtering email. This data can be accessed by email systems within the ufl.edu address space to filter email and reduce the amount of spam received and passed on to end-users.
CNS subscribes to the sbl, xbl, and pbl data base feeds provided by Spamhaus. In addition, a combined reference, or zen data base, is defined.
You may access these Spamhaus feeds by sending DNS queries to name.ufl.edu (128.227.128.24) within the sbl, xbl, pbl, or zen.dnsbl domains. You may also use 128.227.128.24 as a DNS forwarder for the "DNSBL" high level domain.
For information about Spamhaus and how to use it for email filtering, see http://www.spamhaus.org . Instructions for using this service are located under "Frequently Asked Questions Database."
If you have questions regarding using this data to filter email for your mail server, please submit a Net Services request. We will be happy to assist you.
