Why Can't I Access My Account?
| Q: | I'm able to login to NERMVS.CNS.UFL.EDU but not via FTP. I've
been told that if I can login that I should have FTP access and to
contact CNS support about a possible problem with my account. (JC) |
| A: | There is nothing wrong with your account. Normally, a CNS
account has access to all of our services. However, your account was
created by -- and is administered by -- Academic Affairs. The
purpose of the account is to allow you access to the administrative
menu applications. Typically, this type of CNS account is limited
in available services by the entity funding the account -- in this
case, Academic Affairs. Permissions on your account specify "No
FTP Access Allowed." If your goal is to put up a Web page, you can do this on your
GatorLink account at no cost to you or your department. The
GatorLink account is limited to 25MB of space for your Web page. Or, if this is for your department, you may wish to ask your
department to set up (and fund) a CNS account for this work. You
can also get a Grove account from CIRCA where you could put up a Web
page at no cost to you or your department. Call the UF Computing
Help Desk (392-HELP) to get information about Grove accounts. Please let us know if you have additional questions. (tlvh) |
