| Q: | I just read the docweb notice N0411 regarding the scheduled removal of the 9-track drives. On occasion, some of our social sciences units will receive data in 9-track reel format. In the past, we've directed them to CNS for format conversion. Do you have any recommendations on where we will be able to send them, once you retire the drives? (DA) |
| A: | I am sorry but we do not have a recommendation regarding the conversion of 9-track tapes after our drives are removed. There appear to be many 9-track tape conversion services that come up in a Google search, but we do not have quality or pricing information on them. You may wish to ask people on the CCC list if anyone has contact information for converting 9-track tapes. There may be a professor or two on the list who has relevant info that you could use. Of course, there is also the possibility that your data sources could provide their files on square 3480 cartridge tapes. You may wish to ask if this is possible. Again, I am sorry that I do not have the information you requested. Best wishes (tlvh) |
