Why Did LISTSERVE Reject My Posting?
| Q: | I am the owner of a LISTSERV. One of our subscribers began
receiving this rejected posting message: Your posting to the XXXXX-L list has been
rejected because it only contains material in a format disallowed
by the list configuration. Even though the list is configured to
remove unwanted material and process the remaining text, in this
case there would be nothing left after removing the disallowed
material. You may want to resend your message in plain text, which
is always allowed.
For the previous year and half she was able to post to the
LISTSERV without error. She reports nothing has changed with
respect to her e-mail account and there are no graphics in her
e-mail. Would you be able to provide me with any information about
why the rejected postings occur and most importantly how to solve
the problem? Thank you very much, CR |
| A: | I have changed the Language= option in
your list configuration from Language=NoHTML
to
Language=English I believe that a change in your subscriber's Hotmail
configuration or choice of web browser caused her messages to be
sent out in rich text format when previously they were sent as
plain text. Having the Language keyword set to NoHTML strips HTML
attachments sent to the list. This is what happened to your list
member. Even though English is considered the default value for the
Language keyword by LISTSERV software, all UF lists are created
with NoHTML as the default. This is because messages sent in rich
text format can be up to three times larger than plain text
messages. Please ask her to attempt to post to the list again and see
if she still encounters the problem. Thank you for writing to us,
