| Q: | Now that UF is going to start charging for GatorLink dial-up
(and might eliminate it completely in a few months), I've decided
to sign up with < |
| A: | As a result of the announcement that UF will be charging for GatorLink dial-up usage (beginning July 2006), and may discontinue dial-up services sometime after the end of 2006, many users are signing up with other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to fill their needs for dial-up Internet Access. First, please realize that GatorLink Dial-up is NOT a "subscription service", where you get a bill every month because you signed up for the service. You will not be billed for GatorLink Dial-Up usage during any month in which you don't actually USE GatorLink Dial-Up. You will only receive a bill for months during which you actually use the service. However, old habits die hard. And after years of always clicking on the "GatorLink Dial-Up" icon on your desktop, you may want to take positive steps to delete the GatorLink Dial-Up connection on your computer so that you do not unintentionally launch it and thereby incur the $5.00 minimum GatorLink dial-up charge for that month. Probably the easiest thing for most people to do is to just delete the GatorLink Dial-Up icon from your desktop. Just drag it to the "Recycle Bin." That is all you really need to do. The GatorLink Dial-Up connection is still configured on your PC, but it is not out there in its familiar place where you might click on it by accident. If you wish to go ahead and completely remove the GatorLink Dial-Up Networking connection from your PC because you're sure you won't be using it anymore, the following procedure will accomplish its complete removal. NoteThese steps are specific to Windows XP. If your computer is running Windows 2000, you will need to go to Start --> Settings --> "Network and Dialup Connections" to locate and delete your GatorLink Dial-Up connection.
That's all you need to do. The GatorLink Dial-Up connection is now completely removed from your computer. If you have additional questions, or need assistance with
this process, please contact the UF Computing Help Desk;
